Out of the Slums and Into the Schools

Our Mission

The primary purpose for our trip is to build an orphanage just outside of Kolkata.

Kolkata is one of India’s largest city’s and is home to the world’s largest slum. Mohammad has chosen it as the perfect place. It will be just outside the city and will house orphans and give them free schooling. The children will learn basics of Mathematics and English as well as basic life skills. This is being built from the ground up and we are currently doing fundraising for it as all aspects of the orphanage need to be covered.

Secondly we will be working in one of the four schools that Mohammad set up previously. They provide free education for the street children. We have a great article on one of them and the results, which we will add in a future blog. The gorgeous children in the photo above are from one of Mohommad’s schools.

The final thing is twice monthly we will be travelling four hours north of Kolkata to medical camps there. It’s located in a heavy trafficking area. The purpose of this is to give basic medical care and immunization to the mothers and children in the area.
